So glad to hear you're getting better!!!!! You've probably got a few tough spots ahead, but, given your experience on the bike, I think you'll be fine!

Any time the going gets tough, remember, there's a bunch of us fat, slow, old guys pulling for you! :grin

Saul,

Absolutely spectacular news to hear that you are back in the U.S. and continuing to recover. Like a bike race, the road ahead will not always be smooth, but you will overcome. You have inspired many already.

Saul, first I'm glad to hear you are on the mend. Second, I'm in a similar boat but through a different set of circumstances. My brain injury occured in mid march, thankfully though I was not in a coma.

Let me back up, I am a competitive cyclist, not pro, but I love to ride and wish that 20 years ago I had put in more miles...who knows...anyhow getting back on the bike is one of the things I'm working toward. Without getting medical, it sounds our injuries couldd be somewhat similar. My left side is effected as well.

As soon as I returned home, luckily 3 weeks post injury, I hoped on the trainer. At first it was tough to even get my leg over top tube and I had to hold on the whole time for balance. Within a week I was up to an hour and still felt like I ccould puch a big gear.

This past weekend I headed out on the road for an hour with clippless pedals. Now that felt good.

The main thing we are working on in therapy is cooridination. At first the simplist thing like moving the opposite hand with oposite leg even seemed hard, but it get's easier all the time.

Hang in there and be patient (very tough), being an athelete already puts you a step ahead. Good luck and listen to the therapists, if you do better with goals, have them set goals for even a simple walking exercise, it helps.

Saul,

So happy to hear that your recovery is moving forward, with progress every day. I hope to introduce my son to you one day. He's ten years old, and he and I rode together yesterday at the 5 boro bike tour in Manhattan. He easily did thirty miles, and didn't want to stop! I had to pull him out of traffic in downtown Manhattan after the race. He pleaded with me to ride the three miles to our hotel, but the taxi traffic was just too scary. One of these days, he just might make the jump to the big time, like you have.

Best regards for a swift recovery,

hi Saul,

Take your time to get better.

Maybe the Giro d\'Italia will be yours one day! (Lemond won the Tour after a turkey shooting, Armstrond won the Tour after cancer...)

Why couldn\'t you do the same?

Take care.

saul,

despite being alive and on the mend I am sure you have some feelings of a promising career possible not going forward. this is understandable and normal. however, please keep the faith and go one day at a time. everything happens for a reason. this injury and its experience will drive you to new heights and appreciation of life in general. its obvious from what i have read here you will be a success no matter what course you ride on. wishing you all the best.

Hi Saul & family,

Eventually this struggle will be one of the foundation stones of an amazing career in cycling. Like another cyclist who overcame an illness and became a winner, you will do the same. Only better. There are many races in the world, and your will and determination are what will carry you to the podium. Don't give up!

Never mind you are young and have plenty of time. I'm glad you are over the worst of it and I wish you a speedy recovery.

At least you have another year to practice your Italian for your podium speech
