Eddie C. from Austin, TX | Signed on: Tue 20 Jun 2006 06:34:19 AM MST Saul, Keep with all the hard work in rehab. You have a great support team, with your family, friends, teammates and the whole cycling community. In March of 1996, I too had a near-fatal cycling injury to my brain. This happened in a pre-season race, in TN. My "breakthrough year" and the 1996 Olympic Trials did not happen, but I have made a full recovery and now live in Austin, TX. I was lucky and only a short ambulance ride away from Vanderbilt hospital. I stayed there for 2 months and continued rehab for the next year. I made it back to cycling and also managed to finish school. You will be back on your bike again soon. Do not get discouraged and listen to your physical therapists. If you go after your therapy schedule, like you would your training schedule, you'll be back to form before you know it. Keep your head up and know that you and your family are in many peoples thoughts and prayers. Sincerely, Eddie |

Stephanie Gruber from Cincinnati, Ohio | Signed on: Fri 16 Jun 2006 05:59:24 AM MST Hi Saul - In May 1990, I was hit by a car, broke my left knee and compound fractured my right ankle. I was told I would lose my foot, but they were able to save it after three back-to-back surgeries. They then told me I'd never walk corrrectly again. 6 months later after much physical therapy and riding a stationary bike, I was able to put down the crutches and walk. I can walk, work out, snow ski and cycle. I have my first bike race tomorrow in Cat 4. If you stay focused and determined, you'll come back stronger than ever. I met some of your friends in Dalton at the Tour de Georgia, you have a dedicated group ready and willing to help you reach your goals. Take care and best wishes for a full recovery. Stephanie |

My friend Billy Bearden lives in your neighborhood and sent me a "Raisin Hell" bracelet. I wish you the best for a speedy recovery. |

Morris Jenkins from Calhoun, GA | Signed on: Tue 13 Jun 2006 05:44:40 PM MST Dear Saul: I am Ed Miron's old partner and had the honor and pleasure of riding with you in January in Dalton. On May 9th, I suffered a fall when a dog ran under my front wheel-- fractured my scapula, broke 3 ribs and collapsed my lung. I realize that this pales in comparison to your injuries, but your story has been an inspiration to me in my recovery. Best wishes for a complete recovery. I'm glad you're home. Morris Jenkins |
