Terri Alberti from Paradise, California | Signed on: Wed 30 Jul 2008 10:10:57 PM MST Saul, My dad suffered a TBI on June 17, 2008. A friend recommended your book. So I started reading it durring the darkest time of my life! I SO could relate to what your parents went through, and what you went through too. My dad is still recovering, a little behind your timeline........but he is recovering! I have sat with my dad and read to him some of your book, one day I told him "dad, this book is about a young man who was training for the Tour De France, and had a bike reck, he suffered simmular injuries as you, and he's back on his bike!" then I said, "who knows, maybe someday you'll ride in the Tour de France" You should of seen my dads big smile!! (only his second one since the accident). Then he said "your silly!" You have been an inspiration when I needed it most! Bless You! |

Thanks for writing that and providing some insight into brain injury and all the associated trauma. I have been a publisher in this field and I am now retired. I have been a cyclist for 40+ years and I love the sport so much. Next year we are moving to France - curiously near Angers (Saumur). If you come this way I'd love to ride out with you! I wish I could see you in the pro peloton again - you are truly a wonderful human being. Thanks for the inspiration. |

Brenda Smart from Monterey County, California | Signed on: Sat 21 Jun 2008 09:41:30 AM MST I feel compelled to write you because I am currently reading your book Tour De Life. The reason I feel compelled is because I am also recovering from a traumatic brain injury which I also sustained in a bicycling accident. A bit about me: I am not a cycling professional like you are. While cycling my friends who I was riding with are not sure why I fell that night/evening. Maybe an animal darted out in front of me. I also was in a coma for about 6 weeks. I also was thought to be paralyzed on my right side. I currently feel tingly (like its fallen asleep) on the right side of my body. I am currently undergoing therapy for my mobility. I am also riding a recumbent stationary bicycle for exercise so, like you, I hope to be on my bike again. I am currently receiving a slight return of my memory and an ability to understand and enjoy what I am reading. Enough about me! YOU are the reason for this writing. I wanted to thank you for your words of hope and inspiration. Regardless of what Lance Armstrong says, you are NOT a jerk (ha!). You are a hero. I also want to send fond greetings to your parents and fiancee. I know through my own trials how wonderful my husband and parents continue to be. Sincerely, PS. If you are ever in my neck of the woods (Monterey county, California) please feel free to look me up.
