Saul,
I am new to cycling and realize that there is an abundance to learn and enjoy. As I read about and watch you and other cyclists I learn even more, especially about stamina, endurance, motivation, determination, and genuine will power among many other things. Good luck to you, and may your comeback be strong and speedy. You are an encouragement to so many.

Saul,
You are an inspiration to those of us who feel like "we've topped out and don't have anything left, so why bother trying?" Life goes on, and unless you're going with it, you start losing it, sometimes without really realizing it, and once you notice, if you do, it is just that much harder to start turning things around. Motivation, taking that "first step" and having a goal and a plan to reach it, I think, are the most important things to have and you've "been there, done that, got the T-shirt." I really hope you have a great camp and can't wait to see you in The Tour this year. I think you're going to have a great season. Ride because you love to and all the rest will come with it.
Best regards,
Tom Reynolds

Saul: I met you last year when I volunteered as a race marshall at the Tour of California before the circuit race. You were the most friendly rider I've met and you always set a good example for the whole sport. I hope you make it all the way back because the sport needs you. I was wondering what country you think has the most enthusiastic fans?
Comment: Thank you for the nice comment!! Maybe Germany, and belgium,.. the French are very enthisiastic too..

Awesome job, Saul, for the big ride. How long did you take completing the 110 mile ride? What mountain did you ride?

Did you have to change bike sizes after your accident? What size frame are you riding these days?

Take care and happy thanksgiving day in advance.
Comment: 6 hour ride.. Fort Mountain.. Nope same bike size and fit.. I do think my left foot has grown. Saul You too have a nice tanksgiving.

Hi Saul,

It is great to hear/read about your amazing comeback. Just from reading your blog one can see the incredible progress you have made. Best of luck for your future racing career!

Also, my team, University of New Hampshrie Cycling Team, is possibly coming to Georgia in March for a training camp. Could you suggest some good rides and areas to stay? Hopefully you will be in Europe racing then. But if not, you should come ride with us and work over some collegiate racers.

Good Luck.
Comment: north west georgia in the mountains Dahlonega georgia(the six gaps). and Dalton is not that bad..

Hopefully I can meet you next season in Europe!

About Christoph Brandt:
This is the Davitamon-Lotto cyclist who had a nasty crash end of august.
Lot's of people's prayed for him, and those prayers really worked.
Two weeks ago he started riding his bike again. A lot earlier as expected.
When he will ride his first race is not known yet but things look good.

Comment: You are right Gerda!! Thank you for thoughts and prayers.. keep smiling!! Saul

Greetings from Durbs-by-the-Sea.

Always nice to read your cheerful messages and glad you're doing well. Summer's here now and one of the biggest cycling races takes place in Johannesburg this weekend. The Pick 'n Pay 94.7 Cycle Challenge. Approximately 28,000 cyclists take part. Quite something, hey?

Keep up the smiles. :grin
Comment: Sounds like fun= I would like to be there.
Maybe one day i can come to South Africa

Hey Saul, what an inspiration you are!! I am a distance runner who loves cycling. When my college career is over I want to take up cycling, I think I will have a good aerobic base built up due to running although cycling and running are very different!! I was wondering if you ever ran or like to run. All the best my friend!!!!!
Comment: I just started running to help build up my left leg because of the paralysis I had due to my crash.. To tell the truth, it is not my favorite. I am sure you will have a good aerobic base built up for riding if you do a lot of running. No problem. I was did a 1 hour jog twice as fast after I returned from france… Gained 30min in One month/ Saul

Hey Saul,
It is great to read about and hear about all of your accomplishments. You look great, just like the "old Saul" from early biking days. We found some pictures of you and Justin at Tsali, when you both learned to kayak, while we were there for a mountain bike race. You have both changed alot since then, and you have both had some major hurdles to "jump", BUT you have done it and we are all proud of YOU!! Keep up the great work and keep putting those pictures up. Happy Holidays in the days ahead to you and your family!!
Gary, Pam, and Justin Perkins
Comment: I for got, You guys sure do know a little something about hurdles. I remember thoes good o'l days, riding in the car down to the races with you-- I sure do miss them now. Great hearing from you. tell Justin I say hi.. (I remember a little of that counrty song I use to sing with you guyss, something about balls).
