chris from dallas, ga | Signed on: Sat 14 Jul 2007 07:00:19 PM MST Hi Saul, big fan of yours...visited the Kennesaw Train Museum today with my son. They have a special gallery of old civil war era pictures on display and many are of cadets from G.M.I. One picture (listed as unidentified) is the absolute "spitting image" of YOU! It was shocking. I was like "That is Saul!" Anyway-I suggest sending a friend or family member over there to take a look. It could be you great-great-great granddad or something seriously. Take care and best of luck!!! |

Tim from Guernsey C.I. | Signed on: Fri 13 Jul 2007 02:56:56 PM MST Good luck with the testing and enjoy planning your wedding. It's great to follow your progress through this site and I'm finding a few pairs of 'raisin hell' socks very comfortable. I hope you manage to keep up the web site as you get busy racing again. Too many people seem take their health for granted when competing in sport. I manage a grin on most rides, to fact that I'm fortunate enough to be able to ride a bike. seize the day all the best Tim |

Erstwhile Utahan from Madison, WI | Signed on: Fri 13 Jul 2007 11:05:30 AM MST Saul, You made me homesick!. Having grownup at the mouth of Provo Canyon, the Alpine Loop (Sundance, as you term it) was my favorite ride. I rode that loop twice a week, and everytime I get on my bike in Madison, I still think of the great rides I had growing up in Utah. You should try the Alpine Loop in early spring with all the cascades and in the fall with the colors. Keep up with the recovery and best of luck--just stop distracting me and making me homesick! |

Bill from Amesbury, MA | Signed on: Wed 04 Jul 2007 10:35:31 AM MST Saul, I finished reading Tour de Life last night, and cant get you off my mind. I can relate to you TOO much. On Nov. 23 2005, my Dad was in a car accident and had a very similar experience as you. He was awake and talking after the accident, but shortly after, lapsed into a coma. He had 2 ping pong ball size bleeds, one in each temporal lobe. He was in a coma for 10 days, then went through almost all the same things as you. Having to learn how to feed himself, walk, talk etc. He also had a bit more confusion than you. For the first few weeks of his recovery, he thought I was his cousin that he had not seen in about 40 years, but then one day as I walked into his room he said \"hi Bill\", just like he had always known who I was. He spent the last year and a half fighting the many complications that came along with the brain injury, and finally lost the battle on May 12 2007. Two days later, after sleeping about 8 hours in 5 days, I had a tough race scheduled. I was going to cancel, but decided it was the best thing for my mind, to follow through with it. I came in 2nd place in a field of 75, after being on a 5 man break away for over 50 miles. I know my dad was there with me the whole way. Being a competitive cyclist, and having a family member with a brain injury, you can imagine how closely I followed your story as its been progressing. I also ordered a bunch of the Raisin Hell bracelets when they first became available. One month to the day after my dad passed away, while on a training ride in the White Mountains of NH, I had a bad crash on a descent. I went down at 48 MPH, and hit a guard rail. I broke my right cheek bone, and eye socket, and sustained a concussion. Luckily, there was no bleeding in my head, but I have been dealing with Post Concussion Syndrome ever since the accident. I had to have surgery, and they put a titanium plate and 8 screws in face. The hardest thing to deal with has been that I severed the main nerve, and have no feeling on the whole right side of my face, but I am extremely lucky to have walked away with only the injuries I received. I had to back out of a few races that I was already signed up for, due to the fast long descents, that I am just not ready for yet. Like your Dr,\'s told you, I am not to bang my head again for awhile. So, I have been doing Time Trials, and Hillclimb races. This Saturday I am racing up Mt. Washington. I have always wanted to suggest to you that you come up to New Hampshire, and try to break Tom Danielson\'s record on Mt. Washington. It had been held by Tyler Hamilton before that, and he comes back every year to try to reclaim it. I think its time for you to take it for yourself. Loved the book! Dave was a great choice to team up with to do this, as I also loved his other books. I met him a couple of years ago in Moab Utah, when I traveled out there to ride in the Moab Century Tour, a ride that benefits the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Cant wait to see you racing!! Bill |

Greg Milledge from Brea, CA | Signed on: Wed 04 Jul 2007 12:00:06 AM MST Saul, I ordered your book off Dave's site on Friday June 29th and much to my surprise it was waiting in my mailbox yesterday (hand-addressed). It is so cool to get a copy signed by both of you. I've been reading it nearly non-stop when I wasn't at work and just finished. I highly recommend tis greatly inspirational story, one that I have been following since I met you at the Tour de California before your accident. It was great talking to you again in Solvang this last February. I'm just wondering how your concentration and impulsivety have progressed since the end of the book? That is nearly 5 months ago. Will C.A. let you ride in any other races besides the US Pro? Your is truly an awesome tale of human spirit told that Dave has presented so well. Good luck and god bless Saul! I'll keep checking out your site hoping for the day that you post that you are going to race! Greg |

Tim from Las Vegas, NV | Signed on: Mon 02 Jul 2007 10:07:03 AM MST Saul. I was in the hometown of Salt Lake this last weekend for the passing of my father after 16 years of liver cancer. Yours is another inspiring story and good luck with the continuing recovery. While drving around, I passed some fool in a CA kit and laughed. Upon closer examination, they kind of looked like you and didn\'t have the calves of a fool. Then I just saw the article about you in the paper this morning, so sorry for laughing. Welcome to Salt Lake! I hope the place treats you well. Vegas sucks for riding and I definitely miss the canyons. Congrats on the news. The Z's are good folk. Good luck. |
