I've read the news also on the CA site. It's sad, after all the hard work and energy you've been putting in your recovery. But I think this has made you a strong person!
I hope we can keep in touch via this website.

Hey Saul,
I was really saddened after reading your post about you having to discontinue professional cycling, but what I know is that you shouldn't quit cycling. If it is your passion, then keep riding. I've been through the same situation just yesterday, but I decided that I'd keep racing, no matter how painful it is to hear that people don't want me to race anymore. If I have the power to choose my own fate, then so do you too. God bless you.

When you hear that you have to cant reach a dream which is important for you, it is very hard. But don't forget that the life is hard, and such a situation prepares you better for the life, Be strong, and live your life. You have only ONE(in your case, maybe TWO). BE LUCKY!

Saul, I am very sorry that you won't be in the peleton next year. But things happen for a reason and you will find your way in life and it will be a wonderful thing.
I just wanted to let you know that you have already done a wonderful thing. My 19 year old son suffered a brain injury in early March and the doctors told us he was brain dead. I brought your picture in and told him your story while he was lying in the hospital in a coma. I kept telling all the nurses that Saul lead the pack and that our son would following him. To make a long and very painful story short, our son walked out of the rehab hospital and is leading a normal life. Saul, thanks for being the inspiration that got us through the toughest months of our lives.

i am so sorry to hear of the decision. i'm sure it was unexpected and definitely undesired. but in seeing your return to health and the strength you've shown and passed on through your book, rides/events, appearances, etc... I have no doubt you will find your calling, be successful, and continue to impact the lives of others in a positive way. i look forward to again riding in the Raisin' Hope ride in Dalton and to following your next adventures. And, best wished to you and Aleeza in your next step!!!

Hey Saul, just got done reading your book. It was emotional for me to read. I was in a bad bicycle accident in July. I was "fortunate". My head didn't take the force of the crash, but my back and ankle did.

Think about trying tri races. The doc might think that is ok.

Best of luck.

Dear Saul,

You have a brilliant, indomitable spirit. I believe in you and in your ability to rise above this setback. Never forget that there are THOUSANDS upon thousands of us out here, and the time wil never come when we stop cheering for you.

Racing is and was always going to be merely one chapter in your life. All the other chapters remain to be written, and, except for racing, you can make them however you wish!

Best of luck to you, young man, with your beautiful bride. Godspeed!

It was french doctors that said you will not recover, it was french doctors that didn't think it was good for you to come to USA,Isn't it the french that said lance couldn't come back? I recall on the espy awards they give an award, in honor of a guy whos name escapes me.. his motto ""do not give up. do not ever give up""
Saul you ARE a bike racer,
never forget that

Hey Saul, Good luck to you my friend! You are still a huge inspiration and I know a lot of ppl are still interested in what you will do. Also, if you need any extra cash and want to offload your team gear, I know people that would definitely including myself do it for you and your cause.
Hope that was not too soon.

Saul, your story has touched millions as well as your willingness to fight. I cracked my skull 3.5 years ago when I flipped my bike and this injury affected me more than taking a 900lb. motorcycle end over end at 60mph. I wish you the best of luck and feel that with your drive you will be successful in whatever you choose. Look for something you like. Bob Hope said that if you love what you are doing, you never have to work a day in your life. Find a job you can be passionate about and you are a guaranteed success. Good luck and thanks. :) :) :)

Hi, Saul -
Your story is amazing. I have followed your carrer for a while. Now you are on a new quest and you will be sucessful with what ever that is too. I am a brain cancer survivor. I was diagnosed on July 31 2003. when I had my crainiotomy I was awake. They removed about 60% of the tumor, so now they just keep an eye on it. It is not growing right now. That is good. I cannot drive anymore, to many seizures, but I ride my bike all the time. Keeps me in shape. Brain cancer changed my life as your injury has changed yours. But not in the wrong way,Just a different way. I am a bike shop owner and enjoy the time I spend at the shop. We are working on a series of pro cyclist forums and Aaron Olson will be a one of them. He just moved to Bend, Oregon. He is a great guy. So, I guess that is it right now. You are an inspiration for many and will continue to.

Hi Saul,
In 2002, I had a spinal cord injury and was told I would be lucky to walk again or race my bike (recreationally) again. Since then I have completed one Ironman and three half iron distance triathlons. I never liked being told I couldnt do something and have not let that doctors words get me down once. You have had an amazing recovery and anything is possible. Keep your chin up.

There has always been more to you than only the cyclist side. It's just time to give your other qualities a chance to grow. You'll build the next step in your life upon these 13 years of cycling and all the experience you have made. Good luck, I know you'll make it.

Personally,I dont believe your days as a pro cyclist are over.Dont know the tech aspects of the testing and im sure the experts know more than i do.I believe that you should continue to train, perhaps with a longer term goal of returning to racing.Give your recovery more time but keep the goal in focus. The body is an incredible thing.

Sorry to learn of the outcome of the decision by the doctors, but I am certain they have taken your well-being for the long-term as the primary reason for their decision. Sounds as though you are taking a positive attitude towards it, as you have done throughout. I look forward to seeing you as a spectator at some of the bicycle races. You WILL land on two wheels (or your feet) !

Saul,

I have been following your story since the injury. I really thought you would be back and am VERY sorry of the most recent medical news.

I hope you will put your "on the bike" effort into your foundation and make it a reality for the thousands that suffer everyday from brain and spinal injury. I can't wait to see your organization become a major fund for research and healing for many. Don't give up and continue to ride.

Can't wait to hear the good news about your work - keep us informed.

Saul,
I read the news on cyclingnews.com this morning, and I am pretty sad about it. I just finished your book, and I was hoping that you will return the racing. It took me hours to get on to your site, which I believe is a sign of the impact you have had. I know that things are pretty rough now, but they will get better. I wish there was some way to help. The only help that I can give you is numerous contacts that I have in the journalism world. If you want them, I'll be more than happy to send them to you. My email is danxmcgraw@gmail.com.

See ya on the roads,
