Saul, I have followed your career and events from a distance. You are really a strong man. The book is so real and special. Inspirational and motivational speaking pays better then riding, and your Mom will approve!

God bless you.

You're alive, in fairly good health, with all your limbs intact and a sound mind. You have a lovely family and a girlfriend. You are very fortunate. It's time to put your past life behind you and look forward to the future. If you are able to do this with a lot of happiness, you will have reached a place that most human beings never get to. Nothing is permanent, least of all a sporting career.

Saul,

I cant imagine how hard it must be to have your life\'s dream taken away. It sounds like you have some new dreams to make with a new team for life. Good luck to you both, in creating and realizing those dreams.

Thank you for sharing your story, I am sure there are plenty more challenging and inspirational chapters to go.

Saul,

Don't look back. You have so much ahead of you and much to be thankful for. Just imagine the joy of becoming a father one day. I am sure you will be even a better father than a cyclist. You remain an inspiration to many (as you can see by this guestbook). Chin up, Saul, chin up!

Saul,

I live by this quote:

"One doesn't discover new lands without consenting to lose sight of the shore for a very long time." - Andre Gide-

You practically are this quote. When my wife and I were discussing whether we should sell our small house in "the city" and buy a more spacious house in the country (something neither logic nor finances would support), I told her your story as a shining example of someone turning the seemingly impossible, into something absolutely possible.

I'm very sorry to hear your recent news, but the truth is, yours is the kind of victory which cannot be measured by time clocks or finish lines. You have transcended those things, and as such you have already won the Tour, the Giro, and the Vuelta more times than everyone else combined. You have become an epic hero, one whose strength and courage have become a model for the rest of us to live by.

Go put on that yellow jersey Saul, raise your arms in the air, and stand back so that the rest of can stand and applaud you, the greatest of all champions.

Go forward, find and follow your next goal; we'll still be here, watching and learning.

Good luck!

Sincerely,

Hello Saul,
I was a rugby player, I had to stopping because of illness, I know what you endures ... Now, it\'s up to you to get your passion of youth.
You remain a great champion ... And in your old age you do not say \"I could have ...\" But \"j done.\" Saul, a true champion he is in life as on the bike.
Bonjour,
Bon courage.
Good luck.

Saul,
You have shown courage not only in your cycling, but in your struggle over the last year and a half. You have set an amazing example for the current and next generation of cyclists by not just considering yourself and your needs but also through your charitable actions. I pray that you find what you are looking for in the next phase of your life.

Saul,
I cannot express how much I feel for you at this moment, I know you had a dream of your impending return that is now denied. I just want you to know there are hundreds (maybe thousands)of people here in Chattanooga that care about Saul the person more then Saul the bike racer. I know it is toucgh to deal with changes but know you will handle this well and come out an even stronger person because of it. Let us know when you are in town and we\'ll ride.

Hi Saul,

I dropped a word of support from Belgium (Europe) last year, shortly after your crash in France. I crashed heavily as well on Nov. 13, 2005. and suffered from severe brain damage and injuries. I would like to express my support to you and family. Do not be depressed. Life offers so much more than cycling. Things could even had been worse... C'mon on the bike and enjoy life. You certainly know your strengths - as any cyclist does - and, although you won't be a pro rider - you will be able to exploit them and realize a nice job and so many other things. If you intend to come to Europe, why shouldn't we arrange a training camp for USA residents in france, or italy,...

Kindest regards

Don't forget, your dream did come true!
You made it back as a pro-cyclist, you were at the start of the USPro- championchips!

Even if it was only for this one race, you did it! Congratulations Saul. And the best of luck in future, you will turn this in to something great.

Saul, I hope this gets to you. I meet you in 00-01? at the US 100k in ATL. At the time you rode for the Saturn youth Development team. We were standing outside the Sheraton Hotel and it was my first Elite cycling race with all the pros I looked up to in Velo news. You stuck out because none of the top dogs would give a Cat2 the time of day except you. We spoke about the race and the power tap you were using, your wheels etc. You were and are something special that goes far beyond the cycling community. That day I got to see a little of the person you really are. From that point on I was a fan of yours always checking on your progress. You see, I too had my cycling dreams cut short. I had giving cycling everything I had just as you have. I went to Belgium and did the kermeese thing. I trained like a madman, spent every waking hour on the bike. you know the routine. Then in 2004 it all went wrong I was diagnosed with Chronic fatique syndrome. I went from doing a hundred mile training ride to not being able to take a shower without getting exhausted. I have yet to ride again. I have accepted this and moved on. But I gave it my all. I did my best. As did you . I guess what im trying to say is you are a special kind of person and you have so much to give outside of cycling. I wish you the best.

You must believe that you haven't been brought to where you are for no good reason. Racing may not have ended on your terms but there is a reason. This is not an end. It is a beginning and the courage and strength you've shown will stand you well. You are a winner in search of his next race. It won't be the one you planned but I'm willing to bet it will be more meaningful. Continue to inspire people.
